A Great Event and Great New Trail In Lander

We had an awesome time this past weekend in Lander at the Jurassic Classic Mountain Bike Festival. Also, finally got to ride the new Upper Brewer’s Trail that Wyoming Pathways helped raise funds for and project manage. All I have to say about both the event and the new trail is WOW! The event was bigger and better than ever, with over 200 attendees and the trail exceeded all expectations.

The event kicked off with a Thursday concert, then clinics, rides, demos and even fresh baked cookies from Foley, the Shimano Rep at the famous Johnny Behind the Rocks trails. Then it was on to a MTB film festival Friday evening at event sponsor, the Lander Bake Shop.

Saturday was the big day in Sinks Canyon with shuttles to ride both the trails there, including the new Upper Brewer’s Trail. Saturday afternoon and evening was Shenanigans in Lander’s North Park, with food, beer, contests, like “Huffy Tossing” and the always popular roving dinosaurs.

Sunday was a day to give back as Lander Cycling held a trail day to give some love to some of the Shoshone National Forest trails in Sinks Canyon.

Combine all this with the other cool evening activities in Downtown Lander and free camping in Lander’s City Park and it was a mountain biker’s dream come true.

So, if you want to visit a really cool place and ride or hike a really sweet new trail, get yourself to Lander and check it out. Once you visit, you will want to be sure to put the Jurassic Classic on your schedule for next year.

Wyoming Pathways will be working with the Forest Service next year to build some bridges on Upper Brewer’s to make it even better (you can see why bridges are needed in some of the photos). We are looking forward to “having to” spend more time Lander. Great city, great event, great community and sweet trails…what more could you want? Well, great beer and food is always good and they have that as well. Go check them out.
